Hello, friends! I hope you all have had a great week as we’ve worked through the first week of this new year. I’m grateful for the opportunities that God has given me in just the ten days that we’ve had so far.
I know I posted two book reviews this week already, but I wanted to jump on for a third post this week with an update for those who wish to know about it.
You’ve probably already observed this update. I’ve changed the name of this publication from In the Quiet Moments to From the Desk of a Student. It’s a little change, but one that I think displays what I want this Substack to be.
This past year, I made a declaration to my mom. I said, “I’m going to be a student for the rest of my life.” She thought I was frustrated with the fact that my education never seemed to end, and so she said, “Oh no, Rebekah!” but I backpedaled and said, “No, no, that’s not to be taken as me complaining. I’m saying that I have learned that I love learning!” Truly, it’s a revolutionary thing! Last year, I learned so much about World War II history that’s not often covered in history classes. I learned about 1920s Japanese history and how to write academically. I learned about how to grow green beans and how the study of linguistics helps my role as a TESL instructor. I learned how to write in hiragana and how to bake bread.
I’ve worked to create a space for myself in the home I live in where I can sit down and enjoy the things that God has brought to me. This place in my home guides me to think about God and what He has done to help me learn. I want to further cultivate an attitude and appreciation of learning and reading within myself and hopefully within others.
We’ll be learning for the rest of our lives. We might as well enjoy it, right?
Since all of these posts are written by yours truly, and I write these posts from that spot in my house I mentioned, I decided to update the name of this publication to match a little better. I will be a student for the rest of my life, and I wear that fact with honor.
I hope you all will join me on this journey and appreciate learning alongside me! Are you wanting to learn something specific? Let me know!
Honored & glad to join you! We'll learn from each other😊
