We are now 24 days away from moving and 21 days away from me finishing my Masters! What a wild time to be in, for sure! Here is what I was able to accomplish this week.
I must confess that a few tears were shed this week, due to some overwhelm. It all began on Monday, when I finally decided to tackle my 300-book library. I knew I was only going to be able to move one bookshelf for this trip, so I had the wonderful task of sorting through my books to figure out which ones I wanted to take and which ones would stay at my family’s home for a little while.
This wasn’t so bad, were it not for the fact that I really got in my head about moving and future plans and everything, and I got myself a little worked up. I know it’s silly, but nevertheless, it was a definite reality of this week. I’m happy to report, though, that with all of the work I did, I was able to clear out one bookshelf and move the rest of what I have yet to pack over to the other one I’ll be taking. I’m documenting which books I have in what boxes, and I will make clear signs for my family to refer to once I ask them to send books. It makes the process take a little longer, but it’ll pay off in the long run!

On Sunday, I found the large diamond art painting I started a few years ago and haven’t finished. I was in a poor mood that night while putting it together, feeling like things were taking forever to get through. But as I worked more on it this week, I actually found myself enjoying my time as I worked through a project that I’m counting as moving because if I finish it, I'll free up a lot of space. The progress has been so fun to watch, and I think it’ll be beautiful when it’s done! I also sorted through all of the teas that I owned and figured out what I should take with me and what I should use/find another home for. I have a few bags of random tea that I got from a subscription box that I’ll brew in a teapot and drink from, so I can still enjoy the tea, but make more room!

On Monday, I also sent out something that I listed on eBay, and I had someone else buy another item too today!! I’m very grateful that these items are being sold, as they’ll go to people who can appreciate them far more than I can. In 2023, I crossed an item off my “To-Do for Life List” and bought myself a kimono with all of the items from a Japanese Etsy shop. I keep the kimono and the items in a kimono case under my bed, so I took the case out and folded the three haori I own to place everything in one protected spot. I’m taking that with me, just in the event that I could wear it for fun. You never know, right?
On Tuesday, I spent some time going through a few items in my closet. I pulled out all of my purses and bags and sorted through everything to figure out what I wanted to keep and what I wanted to clear away. Of these, I had some Studio Ghibli-themed bags that I no longer used for various reasons, like the bags being really big or too small, so I cleaned up those bags and listed them for sale, too. Hopefully, someone will want to purchase them! Cleaning this out helped me to put all of my bags in one box, which I think is the smallest box I have ever used to store my bags. Crazy, right?? Because of this, I made more space in my closet!
On Wednesday, I sorted through the random box of electronics I have. I grew up playing Nintendo games as a kid, and I still have my 3DS. I seriously can’t part with it, so I’m taking it with me. While the games I have are worth a pretty penny on eBay, you can’t buy nostalgia, and playing these games reminds me of times with my siblings. The console is coming with me! While I’ve been cleaning through my room, I’ve been finding random things that go elsewhere in the house, and instead of having to find where they go in the house and wrecking my productivity, I put them in a large basket to sort later. I sorted one large basket on Wednesday, cleaning out things and putting the random items in their respective places. I’ll do this with another bin today as well!
Thursday and Friday were yet again spent primarily on my classwork. I had a research paper and a book critique due just for one class, so I wanted to make sure they were done, and progress was very slow-going on Thursday. Thankfully, I submitted everything today after working on it for four hours. The good news is that I’m heading into the end of these classes (starting week 6 of 8 next week), so I won’t have them for long, but they still require some balance.
Today, in between working on those projects, I sorted through some reference books I have in my closet and gave them to my brother, who will use them for some of the classes he’s in. He is going to the same college I graduated from, so it helps to share these resources with him. During this sorting, I found this beautiful Norton’s anthology, which is definitely coming with me to my new place!
I think for the rest of the day, I’ll work on cleaning through some more hobby things and more areas of my closet to get more things squared away. I’ll listen to an audiobook, work on more of this diamond painting, and enjoy the time I have. I always have this tendency to quickly move from thing to thing. We need to take some time. Relax. You don’t have to be in a rush if there’s no reason for a rush.
I know these things will get done. I know I’m mentally ready for the move, so I just have to work through it and put everything where it needs to go! It’ll be great!
I hope that you enjoyed reading this and that something I wrote inspired you. If it did, I would love it if you could let me know and share this with others. I want to inspire as many people as I possibly can! Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you next week for the installment of the moving diaries!
