Hello, friends! Tomorrow will mark one month until I move, and I’ve started the process of decluttering and packing this week, so I figured I would keep a little diary of the process to look back on! Doing this helps me reflect on the week, and writing makes the process pretty fun!
I first started the week by creating a to-do list of the big-ticket items I want to accomplish before moving. Some of these items are broken down into individual steps (sometimes comically so), which helps to keep me from getting overwhelmed by everything. Since I’m moving out of my parents’ house, I’m doing a lot of tasks by myself. This list has grown as I think of more things to do, but I’ve also been checking off things here and there!
For my process, I’m not only looking at my use of the items in the past, but also whether I will use them once I move. If the answer is no, then I will find it a new home. The decluttering process officially started on Sunday night. I went through all of my water bottles and found a few to get rid of, so I’ll be donating those to the thrift store.
Monday began with writing a handful of cards to friends and some widows in my church. One of my goals for 2025 was to write all of the widows, and I’m happy to say that I accomplished it! I went with a friend to get coffee and then took some things to different friends that I was going to get rid of. My friend, in turn, gave me a portable file folder that she was no longer using, something that I needed for my own files! That was a lovely treat not to have to pay for something new to accomplish one of my goals.
I spent the rest of the day decluttering all of my craft supplies — a job that hadn’t been done since I went to college in 2020. I love to journal and have collected all sorts of stickers, papers, letter sets, and stamps, but they’ve been spread to a bunch of different areas. This helped to centralize everything. I’m going to find a new home for some stickers, notebooks, and supplies. I also have some craft kits that I either started to put together, but haven’t finished, or I never started them, and I want to start and finish them before I leave.
I’m finding that when I was in high school, I tended to hoard things obsessively, spending money on tons of makeup, craft supplies, and merch that I really didn’t need. I don’t know if that’s just a tendency when you’re younger, because your appreciation of the dollar is equivalent to owning stuff. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found that I don’t have nearly as much time, and my energy goes to different things. I can’t help but feel like I’m going through two people’s things: high school/early college Bekah, and late college/grad school Bekah. It’s an interesting feeling.

Monday and Tuesday were primarily spent reorganizing my craft supplies and then recovering my room from Hurricane Hobbytown. In between those times, I reorganized all of my personal files and listened to an audiobook! I also listed several of my items, mainly anime merch and some things that I hope to sell for a little extra money. We’ll see how that goes!
Wednesday and Thursday were not as jam-packed with productivity. I’m not sure if I had just maxed out my brain on decision-making, so it demanded that I take a rest, but I found myself in an odd position where I wasn’t making any progress on schoolwork or organization. I finally snapped out of my funk on Thursday evening when I got a package in the mail! My grandmother sent me some money for a birthday present at the beginning of the week, so I used it to buy myself a matcha set and some nice new matcha. While I knew it was going to be another thing I had to pack, it was small enough that I could put it in the box of little kitchen items that I own. Additionally, the caffeine content in matcha is just the thing I need to get me going. My heart races too much from coffee, but I love the taste of matcha, and the caffeine content is just the right amount to help me with midday slumps.
The last three days have helped me have consistent energy, and the matcha set has really been a blessing in multiple ways!

Friday was a mix of responsibilities. I started working on two craft sets to help me with my stash. One was a cutie little diamond art set that a friend gave me at the beginning of the year, and the other was a miniature house set that looked like a detective’s office. So far, I’ve finished two of the small canvases, and I’ve almost finished the miniature house. I just need to wire the lightbulb to the battery pack, but I figured that was going to take longer because I have to get my soldering kit, and I don’t mind just setting it to the side for now.

I think to finish things off for the week, I’ll work on two areas. The first area includes the things I relocated from my desk when I was wrapping up this week’s assignment. I’ve been chipping away at it ever so slowly. Most of what’s left are some greeting cards I need to finish making, so I think I’ll finish making them and organize my greeting card bin. The second area includes my tea. The rest of my family drinks coffee, so my tea items tend to be stuffed at the top of the cabinet, and I tend to forget what I’ve bought. I’ll go through each and see if there are any flavors I no longer want.
I think that’ll put me in an excellent place for more progress next week! Next week’s big place to tackle is the closet. It’ll be more focused on the items in the closet and not the clothes. I had to go through my closet at the beginning of the year to get rid of a bunch of stuff that no longer fit, so I’m confident that my clothes are in a good place, organization-wise.
It’s an exciting time to be in, for sure! As I’m getting closer to actually moving, I’m surprised to find myself more excited than nervous! I think my mind just knows it’s time to make that jump. So here we go!
I hope that you enjoyed reading this and that something I wrote inspired you. If it did, I would love it if you could let me know and share this with others. I want to inspire as many people as I possibly can! Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you next week for the installment of the moving diaries!
Good luck! I hope I don't have to move again for the rest of my life.
Since you like writing cards and all things crafty, you may want to start mail arting - if you are not already busy enough...
