Greetings, my friends! I realize that I am getting this post to you just a little late since I aim for the 1st of each month, but I wanted to post nonetheless. I hope September treated you well! A lot happened this month that I’m so grateful for, and here’s a sneak peak!
Entertainment
I grew up playing Nintendo games, and one of the game series I enjoyed the most was the Professor Layton series! These are wholesome puzzle-based video games about a professor of archeology, Hershel Layton, and his apprentice, a boy by the name of Luke Triton, who help to solve mysteries Sherlock Holmes-style.
It’s been ten years since we’ve received any new content, and after the Western office of the game developers closed here in America, we fans thought we would never see another update.
Earlier this year, we received news that we were getting a new game in 2025!! And we got a game development video this past week, which is exciting!!!
These games are still available to play on the mobile app store, and I highly recommend them. The puzzles are great brain exercises and the stories are highly intriguing. Let me know what you think about them if you play the games!
The music is also great for studying and working! Here’s a playlist that I enjoy!
Books and Reading
I didn’t read much this past month, which I honestly wasn’t planning on. I was planning to read much more, as can be seen by the stack of books sitting across from me at this moment.
A Time to Seek by Tracy Higley is a book I was not expecting to like as much as I am now! I found this gem of a read a few months ago and have been enjoying it!
The book takes place in 1920s Egypt and follows the life of an Egyptologist named Sahara Aldridge. Alridge is working on a project when she discovers a family secret revealing that her mother and father were actually time travelers! The author actually has a Master’s in Ancient Civilizations, which is just such a fascinating program to me! She is also Christian, so this is a clean read and one that has been fun! I’m currently 34% of the way through the book, but I’m confident that I’ll like this book and the rest of the trilogy once I finish it!
Hobbies
My mother was such a sweetheart and bought me a candle-making kit this month. I made myself a spiced chai beeswax candle and it’s the perfect blend of honey and spice and I would definitely recommend! I’m currently perfecting the recipe to make sure it smells the best, so when it’s perfected, you can expect that I’m going to share it with you all!
Another thing for this month, and one of my hobbies, is language learning! As you know, I love Japanese culture. I started my Japanese class this month, and many of the videos I’ve found to be especially helpful have been from a website called Tofugu! His videos about learning the Hiragana (one of the writing systems of Japanese) are especially helpful with the mnemonics that he associates with each character. It’s really made the process of language learning particularly enjoyable! If you want to start learning a language, especially one like Japanese, Tofugu makes the process a little less intimidating!
Bible Verses
I’m currently working through a 90-day devotional with one Psalm a day. It’s been uplifting and encouraging to my prayer life. While there have been times that I’ve struggled with doing it, and at the same time each day, it’s been a lovely experience. One thing I’ve seen over and again can be found in Psalm 17:6:
“I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: Incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.”
David had full confidence that when he called on God, God would hear him. He prayed that God would listen and was confident that he was being heard. The same God who led David is the same One who leads you and I, dear friends. We can rest our full confidence in Him as He will guide us just as He guided David!
Something a Little Random
I know I’ve mentioned this several times already, but last week, I started a publication that covers Japan in the 1920s, known as the Taisho-era of Japan. You can find the first post of the publication here.
This publication looks at the littlest things that make the time period unique and will include studying people of interest, fashion, art, events, and even the smallest things that define the era. I’m working to publish a post each Saturday, and if it’s something you’re interested in, I hope you’ll check it out!
Thanks for taking the time to read this post of my favorites from September of 2024! It’s hard to believe that we’re heading into the last quarter of the year. 2024 is only three months away from closing out, my friends. The thought is wild to me and yet very welcome for some reason.
I wish you the best, my friends! Please let me know if you try any of these things and let me know what your thoughts are too!
